The Massachusetts closeout supplemental budget wisely includes funding for the Sports and Entertainment Events Fund that anticipates the arrival of the World Cup in Foxborough next year. This is just one example of the major events we can attract to the Commonwealth with strategic planning.

It's critical that the Conference Committee, composed of Chairs Michlewitz and Rodrigues, Vice Chairs Ferrante and Comerford, and Ranking Members Smola and O'Connor, retains the House language for this fund.

At a time when state revenues are becoming more uncertain, it's more important than ever to invest in the things that will stimulate the local and regional economy. We know this fund can do that. Based on past events in the Greater Boston area, we can expect per event (depending on size and duration):

$40+ Million in economic activity

$19 Million in wages

$425k in tax revenue

$20+ Million in visitor spending

Up to 70% of attendees from out-of-state

Hundreds of jobs preparing for, servicing, and closing out events

Pass the budget with the Sports and Entertainment Fund included today!

The Massachusetts Sports & Entertainment Fund Coalition is made up of supporters of incentives that ensure Massachusetts remains a destination for large-scale events that showcase our beautiful state, accelerate our economic engine, and create jobs.
